STOP INVASIVE SPECIES IN YOUR TRACKS
The PlayCleanGo initiative aims to raise awareness and foster collaboration in preventing the spread of invasive species throughout North America. It encourages outdoor enthusiasts to stay informed, alert, and responsible in protecting our natural resources, promoting the message: “Stop Invasive Species in Your Tracks™!”
We urge outdoor enthusiasts to take simple steps to enjoy nature responsibly, get educated on best practices, and actively prevent the spread of harmful species to new areas.
Simple Steps to Follow
- CLEAN your shoes, clothes, packs, and pets before and after exploring, and STAY on designated trails.
- CLEAN your horse’s hooves and feed them weed-free certified hay before your adventure.
- CLEAN, DRAIN, and DRY your watercraft and angling equipment to Stop Aquatic Hitchhikers.
- DON’T MOVE Firewood. Buy it where you burn it, buy certified heat-treated firewood, or gather on-site when permitted.
- Before traveling to new areas, INSPECT and CLEAN your trailers, off-road and recreational vehicles with water or compressed air to remove mud, plant parts, and hidden pests.
- TAKE the PlayCleanGo Pledge and invite your family and friends to do the same
Get Educated
Invasive species, which include plants, animals, and microorganisms, are not native to specific regions. Once established outside their natural habitat, they can wreak havoc on the economy, environment, and human health. These species have the potential to significantly damage ecosystems and diminish the natural beauty of an area.
Take Action While Adventuring
Take your knowledge one step further and apply it when you are in the outdoors. Explore how you can actively prevent the spread of invasive species while you are caving, backpacking, mountain biking, paddling, fishing and more.
