History
Weed and pest control in Wyoming has a long history. Prior to the establishment of the Weed and Pest Control Act, many regions of the state had Weed and Pest programs.
Since 1973, the Wyoming Weed & Pest Council (WWPC) has been dedicated to helping prevent the introduction of invasive species. Through collaborative efforts with various organizations, residents, recreational enthusiasts, landowners, and governmental bodies, the council has crafted management and education initiatives aimed at preserving Wyoming’s natural beauty for all to enjoy.
1895
First Wyoming Weed Law was passed (H.B. 174 – “An Act to Provide for the Destruction of Russian, and Canadian Thistle and Kindred Pests”)
1937
First Biennial Pest Control Conference was held in Cheyenne, which laid the groundwork for the creation of the Council
1973
Wyoming Weed and Pest Control Act (HB0051 – Weed and Pest Districts) signed by Governor Stan Hathaway on February 10

Leafy Spurge Program Established (HB0053)

WWPC is a founding member of North American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA) (known at the time as NAWMA)

Emergency Insect Management Program Established (HB0236)

Pesticide Registration Fee Grant Program Established (SF0045)

WWPC Recognized in Washington, DC by the Federal Interagency Committee for the Management of Noxious and Exotic Weeds (FICMNEW)

Wyoming Hosts the North American Invasive Species Management Association (NAISMA) Conference for the 1st time
