2nd Grade Program

In Lesson 1: Students review the form and function of plant parts, model plant pollination, and demonstrate knowledge of the lifecycle of a flowering plant.

In Lesson 2: Students learn the 3 basic parts of a seed and evaluate different mechanisms of seed dispersal used by local plants. They dissect a germinating seed and examine specimens of local plants’ seeds in this lesson.

In Lesson 3: Students design seeds/fruits that can be dispersed by wind, water, animal, or explosion, and evaluate the efficiency of each method. They consider humans as agents of seed dispersal and learn that humans often bring non-native plants into our ecosystem, either intentionally or by accident, and that some of these plants become invasive.
